The aim of the geography department is to inspire the boys to have an active interest in the world around them as well as educate them to realise their place within the world and their future responsibilities towards it. We also aim to develop the boys’ understanding of both human and physical processes in order to give them the best advantage to be successful in life. We use our extensive grounds and surrounding area for field work on microclimate, farming, land use surveys, fluvial studies and urban growth. For the Common Entrance project, we do a three-day residential course in the depths of Dartmoor, studying rivers, national park management and a Hydro-electric power station. Geography helps you make sense of your surroundings and we try to encourage all boys to question, research and, above all enjoy the subject.
